A Journey from Athlete to Therapist
Balancing wellbeing with success
As a high-achieving professional—whether you're a lawyer, executive, academic, entrepreneur, or another driven individual—success often feels tied to relentless determination and perfection. Vulnerability in these spaces can feel risky, as if showing weakness could undermine your performance or sidetrack your ambitions.
But when worked with safely, vulnerability becomes a gateway to deeper fulfilment and mastery. I understand this—not just as a therapist but from my personal journey. As a former international Olympic weightlifter for Great Britain, I spent years pushing my body and mind to the limit, believing any sign of weakness would compromise my success.
In 2009, a serious car accident left me with severe injuries, unravelling my identity as an athlete and pushing me into a difficult journey of anxiety, PTSD, and existential fear. Through therapy, I realized that the car accident was just the tip of the iceberg. Past traumas had built up, shaping my perfectionism and fear of failure.
Facing these challenges allowed me to acknowledge how my past had shaped my ideas of resilience, work ethic, and determination and whilst they helped me initially, these had to be adjusted for me to thrive.
In my journey, I discovered that confronting our deepest struggles doesn’t diminish success—it enhances it. As a professional therapist, I help high-achievers navigate the pressures of demanding careers while recognizing that vulnerability doesn’t sabotage ambitions. It makes success more meaningful.
With over 6,000 hours of clinical practice, I integrate mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, and trauma-informed counseling, alongside my experience as an elite athlete, to support my clients in overcoming personal challenges while achieving professional excellence.
I’ve shared my journey to help you make an informed choice. If you're ready to explore how facing your challenges can enhance your success, it would be great to hear from you. I’d be happy to discuss how we can work together.
